Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth sold 1 million copies in one week

SEGA and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have boasted that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has surpassed 1 million copies one week after release. This number includes both copies sold digitally and discs shipped to shops.

Thanks to this result, Infinite Wealth has become the fastest-selling game in the series. For example, the previous instalment Yakuza: Like a Dragon sold 1.8 million copies in four years, while the 2018 spin-off Judgment took 2.5 years to reach 1 million units.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is doing great in other ways as well. The game’s peak online in Steam exceeded the records of all other “Yakuza” games, and critics and gamers awarded it with high marks. The score of the novelty on Metacritic turned out to be the highest in the franchise – 89/100.

In 2021, SEGA decided to change the approach to the release of Yakuza games in order to increase sales. Previously, the company released projects first at home and then abroad (and not always with localisation into local languages), but Infinite Wealth has already started simultaneously in all countries. Judging by the success of the title, SEGA made the right decision.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth lands on PC (Steam), PlayStation and Xbox on 26 January
