Yesterday, Capcom announced a new version of the acclaimed Resident Evil 4 remake, set in 2023. This was done with a spectacular trailer showing the content of the upcoming Gold Edition. What caught the attention of many fans was the voice of a male character that can be heard at the end of the video.

Due to the black screen, we can’t make out who says the words “get ready” at 1:13, but it’s clearly not Leo. In the comments, many are speculating that Chris Redfield is saying the phrase. What could that possibly mean? It’s not entirely clear, but fans have already suggested a few possibilities:

• Chris may be added as a playable character in The Mercenaries mode in RE4 – however, this is highly doubtful, as Redfield did not appear in either the remake or the 2005 original;
  
• With these words Capcom is winking at fans, hinting that a new game in the Resident Evil series is coming, possibly a remake – an update of the “five” would be logical (so far the developers have remade three parts in a row, starting with the second part);
  
• We could be talking about a remake of another instalment in the series – Chris, after all, was present in 1997’s Resident Evil or Code: Veronica, among others.

Of course, there is a possibility that the mysterious words at the end of the trailer are not spoken by Redfield at all, so these speculations should be treated with caution. Nevertheless, the creators have recently mentioned that they are planning remakes of other parts of this popular horror series.

Resident Evil 4: Gold Edition will be released on 9 February for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC consoles. This edition includes the “base” game, the excellent Separate Ways story expansion and several small paid DLCs, including those with character costumes or additional “weapons”.

Finally, it’s worth noting that Capcom boasted sales of the Resident Evil 4 remake in its Q3 2023 financial report: 6.48 million people had purchased the game by the end of December.
