Review of Nobody Saves the World

A hilarious game from DrinkBox Studios, the creators of Guacamelee, where the faceless Nobody turns into Someone to save the world from the Attack. It’s exciting and funny throughout.

For all shapes of the master

Nobody Saves the World is a combat role-playing game that parodies other projects like Diablo, where you have to run through dungeons and take out dozens of monsters. Here we play as a pathetic man named Nobody. His world is in danger. An intelligent mass of flesh called the Attack is consistently consuming all living things. The only one who can stop it is the great magician Nostramagus. But he is missing, and only Nobody can find him.

Nobody Saves The World – Launch Trailer PS5

Nobody’s power lies in his ability to transform into unusual creatures. Among the seventeen available forms (not counting Nobody) are a small rat, a decomposing zombie, a sweaty bodybuilder, and a combat robot. Each form has its own characteristics: health, mana, running speed, etc. Some forms can penetrate where others cannot. For example, only a rat and a slug can crawl into narrow passages. A mermaid and a turtle can swim. Unfortunately, flying is not so well thought out. The dragon and the ghost fly over the water surface, but that’s it. They are even affected by puddles of poison!

Shapes have a basic attack and two active abilities. Abilities consume mana and are unlocked with increasing rank. Rank is increased by completing tasks. They are divided into ordinary ones: killing enemies or swimming in water. Or special ones: using your own or other people’s skills/destroying shields.Tasks help you get used to the forms, and by increasing your rank, you can improve your skills and unlock new creatures. Unfortunately, you can’t complete the game without leveling up all the forms. The game simply won’t let you choose a favourite and use it only

A parody of RPG chaos and dungeons in a world of misery

The player is given a variety of different biomes to explore. All of them provide a unique experience, whether it is the kingdom of the dead, a radioactive wasteland, or the jungle. Locations are filled with original monsters, secrets, and characters. Exploring locations is fun. You can find treasure chests. There are fairies hidden in secret corners that increase the maximum mana supply. You also need to do this to unlock the most powerful form, the dragon!

There are three guilds in the game: knights, warriors and mages. Joining them allows you to perform additional tasks. Moreover, they are not limited to the standard fetch-bring-kill. Most of them are mini-games. In them, Nobody has to protect a knight from monster attacks, overcome a room with saws, participate in a race with a witch, etc. But the core of the game is the dungeon. Their layout changes with each visit. Dungeons have special rules. In some, you can use only one form, in others, monsters launch homing missiles at anyone if they are wounded. At the very end, a teleporter is activated, allowing you to instantly reach the boss. A special thanks for that!

From cats to dragons: the variety of monsters

The monsters themselves differ in both appearance and method of attack. Some just hit and bite, others shoot from the eyes. Brain cats deal damage over an area. There are those who poison and set fire to Nobody. Shapeless blobs of flesh put up shields and reinforce other monsters. Shields will not allow you to harm monsters until they are destroyed. To do this, they need to inflict special damage: sharp, blunt, light or dark. The ability to set the abilities of other creatures will help you with this. This allows you to create powerful combos, such as the monk’s holy rain, which poisons everyone around.

Or a giant robot running at a gallop. It will also allow you to destroy all types of shields with one form. Alas, the bosses are not very diverse. There is only one unique one in the entire game. All the rest are modified versions of a regular monster. And the battle with them always takes place in small rooms.

Forms and Fantasy: Role Play on the Scale of World Conservation

The locations in the game are different from each other and full of details. Each dungeon is unique: you can clear away monsters from a whale’s belly, a dragon’s corpse, or an office building. Many elements are animated, and the game has a kind of humour. It is full of funny moments! In one of the tasks, Nobody has to take the form of a horse and fall in love with a stallion. Or teach a slug necromancy to resurrect the wife of another slug. Or periodic meetings with Awesome Randy, which end badly for him.

Not to mention the huge number of references that can be found everywhere. The Attack deserves a special mention: the main antagonist of the game. It is a sentient flesh that is slowly destroying the world. It consumes the flesh, mind, and soul of living beings. The further the player progresses, the more often he or she will meet the victims of the Plague. These are flesh-covered bodies with empty eye sockets. In the dungeons, this creature will talk to the Nobody. At such moments, it mocks him, enjoying its superiority. However, the developers did not guess with the music. It quickly becomes boring and even annoying.
