Is there a Spider-Man 2 New Game Plus in the Spider-Man 2 game?

New Game Plus is increasingly becoming a standard for games that pride themselves on their replayability, and since you’ll definitely want to take more than one trip through Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s lovingly crafted vision of New York City, many players would probably like to see this feature.

As for whether or not Spider-Man 2 will feature New Game Plus, the answer is currently, “No, but…”. However, for everything we know about the supposed future of New Game Plus in Spider-Man 2, read on.

When will New Game Plus be available in Spider-Man 2?

Given that you came here with a question, please don’t shoot the messenger when I tell you that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 does not include New Game Plus, at least at this time.

However, there are a few reasons to believe that New Game Plus will be added to the game sooner rather than later. One of them is a tweet from Insomniac Games’ director of community outreach and marketing, stating that the New Game Plus option should be added to Spider-Man 2 by the end of 2023.

Insomniac’s first Spider-Man game in 2018 also didn’t launch with New Game Plus; the feature appeared in a patch a couple months after release, so it looks like the sequel will follow suit, though there’s no exact release date yet.

What can you do in Spider-Man 2 without New Game Plus?

Even though there is no New Game Plus in Spider-Man 2 right now, you still have plenty of options after completing the main campaign. After completing the main story, you can still explore the city and complete side quests, so you don’t have to start the game from scratch to catch up on what you missed the first time around.

At the time of writing, the only content that will be unavailable at this stage will be the main story missions, although there are plans to add the ability to replay them as well (whether this will be done in the same patch as New Game Plus or later is still unknown).

However, it is true that Spider-Man 2 came out with the Ultimate difficulty level, which is only unlocked after completing the main campaign. The original game received this difficulty level in the same patch that introduced New Game Plus, which makes sense: while you can change the difficulty level at any time, it hardly makes sense to do so after completing the main campaign, but it’s understandable why you’d want to start the Ultimate walkthrough in New Game Plus rather than starting from scratch.
