How to get the secret armor in God of War: Ragnarok – Steinbjorn’s armor

The Steinbjorn armor set is one of the best armor sets in God of War: Ragnarok. All three pieces of armor are focused on providing protection. But the main and most useful feature in battle is the health regeneration due to Kratos’ attacks after he has been seriously wounded. In this guide, we will tell you how to get the secret armor.

Finding one of the best armor sets in God of War: Ragnarok is pretty easy. However, to get Steinbjorn’s armor, you will have to defeat four trolls to collect Slumber Stones. This material is required for crafting. Below we will describe the location of all the items and how to maximize the use of the set.

How to prepare for a search for secret armor?

Before you head out on your quest, here’s a quick list of everything you need to prepare. There may be some mild plot spoilers, so if you don’t want to spoil the experience, wait until you’ve completed the Forging Destiny story mission.

You’ll need to do the following before you can get Steinbjorn’s armor in God of War Ragnarok:

  • Gain full access to move freely around the Lake of Nine area in Midgard;
  • Obtain the Spear of Draupnir;
  • Obtain the “key” that Freya gives you in the story to open the Forbidden Sands area in Alfheim;
  • Complete the “Song of the Sands” request in Forbidden Sands.
  • The order doesn’t matter, but it’s worth knowing what you need beforehand so you don’t waste time.

Where to find the Mystical Heirloom relic?

After you complete Chapter 10 of “The Forger of Your Destiny” and obtain a new path-opening item, the Mystical Heirloom will be your first target. You can find it in the Lake of Nine location, southwest of Tyr’s Temple. Walk along the large ice wall.

Find the rift in the ice column that marks the destructible surface. Throw your spear and blast the ice block to open a path into a small crevice. Look around and you’ll find the gnome’s body next to a mysterious relic and a scroll of knowledge.

How to use the Mystic Legacy relic?

Unlike the other relics you’ll find in God of War Ragnarok, the description of the Mystic Legacy immediately warns that “the item is kind of important, but of no practical value in combat.” When using it, Kratos will tap the device on his wrist, which has no effect, and its short recovery time of 16 seconds allows him to do it quite often.

Note that the information about the relic also states that it “awakens something dormant in the darkest depths of the soul.” You may notice that the knowledge scroll found nearby mentions the purchase of the family heirloom to a certain dwarf.

In different worlds of Midgard you can find huge troll statues. Most of them are located next to knowledge markers. These markers actually describe the troll and mention that it was imprisoned and “put to sleep”.

You can use the Mystic Legacy to awaken these trolls and fight them. Defeating such monsters will also earn you Sleepstones, a unique resource that can only be knocked off these enemies. You can use them to create Steinbjorn’s armor in any gnome forge.

How to find troll statues and get Sleeping Stones?

Below you will find the location of all the trolls that you are entitled to awaken with Mystic Legacy. You can defeat them in any order. If you played God of War 2018, the battles will be familiar to you. Put on the relic and once you’re in the right place, activate it (default gamepad buttons L1 + Circle) to awaken the troll statue.

1 – Blodugr Steinn

Location: Abandoned outpost, Midgard.

The closest troll from where you will find the relic is in the Abandoned Outpost area. Just head west along the edge of the Lake of Nine to reach the outpost. You will find a giant troll statue. Use either your blades or your spear in battle.

2 – Bjarg Stormr

Location: Forbidden Sands, Alvheim.

This troll can be found in the northwest of the Forbidden Sands of Alvheim, but you can only reach it after you fulfill the “Song of the Sands” request. If all conditions are met, get to this location, then go to the western corner.

The desired position is to the left of the center of the area, just behind the debris. Grab the platform above to find the statue. The troll is surrounded by elf bodies on all sides. Use either an axe or a spear in the battle.

3 – Golrab of the Ashes and 4 – Golrab of the Frost.

Location: Noatun’s Garden, Vanaheim.

Not one, but two slumbering trolls await you in the garden of Noatun. Here you can fulfill the ghost’s request to clear the area of poison clouds, which will make the battle much easier.

Fighting two trolls will be quite difficult, as one is frosty and the other is fiery. You will have to use a suitable weapon (of the opposite element) for each enemy. You can also use a spear.

Characteristics of Steinbjorn’s armor

All that is left is to go to the forge and craft the three items that are included in the set. Two of the items increase stun damage by 25% and three increase it by 50%.

Steinbjorn’s bib

  • Starting Characteristics: Rank 6 armor with protection 123.

Steinbjorn’s gloves

What to wear Steinbjorn’s armor with – tips for the best treatment

Bloodthirsty Retribution is without a doubt the most interesting skill in the entire set. Stun Vengeance I could theoretically benefit, but since the main ability focuses on health regeneration, we’re going to make the most out of it.

We’re going to replace 2 items from the set for more effective healing, leaving only the breastplate. We will also be adding the Girdle of Raven Tears and Bracers of Raven Tears, which can be obtained by hunting Odin’s Ravens. These items grant the Healing Effectiveness skill, which increases the amount of health gained from stones, rage, and equipment. This skill also applies to rune attacks.

Ideally, you should choose attacks that can deal damage for a few seconds so that healing continues while Bloodthirsty Retribution is active. If you still need to regain health in the process, skip another hit and continue the combo. Remember that basic attacks are fine, but you’ll get better healing from rage or rune attacks.

Here are some rune attack tips for each weapon that work very well with this build:

  • Wrath of the Frost Ancient: Light runic axe attack – creates an ice beam that freezes enemies on contact;
  • Mists of Helheim: A heavy runic axe attack that creates an area attack that continuously inflicts cold for several seconds;
  • Fog of Fimbulwinter: Heavy axe rune attack – creates an ice wave that deals cold damage to enemies in front of you;
  • Flames of Anguish (Flames of Anguish): a light rune attack for blades that creates a geyser of fire in front of you;
  • Atlas Eruption: A heavy rune-based blade attack that works similarly to Flames of Anguish, but focuses more on melee attacks;
  • Artillery of the Ancients: heavy rune-based spear attack that rains spears on the area in front of you.

Upgrade rune attacks to increase their duration, area of effect, or both.
