Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – Review of the game everyone has been waiting

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a first-person adventure game that follows the chronology of the Avatar films and was developed using the latest version of the Snowdrop engine. The project was led by Massive Entertainment, an Ubisoft studio, in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment, the production company of director James Cameron, and Disney.

From the Pandora soundscape to the adaptive open-world map, every moment of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is designed to immerse players in this incredible world, said Magnus Jansen, Creative Director at Massive Entertainment. We’ve worked closely with the filmmakers of Avatar to create a faithful continuation of this universe, giving players a new setting and a new story.

The world of Avatar is as rich and diverse as ours. This gives us the opportunity to tell more stories than we could ever explore through feature films, said Avatar producer John Landau. Through our outstanding partnership with Massive Entertainment, we have seized the opportunity to tell new stories and expand the world. The result of the partnership will allow fans to be transported to never-before-seen regions of Pandora and take on the challenge of becoming a Na’vi.

The incredible world of Pandora: What the game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

It was an honour to join the close collaboration between Massive and Lightstorm Entertainment to bring this powerful fantasy to Avatar fans around the world, said Luigi Priore, Vice President, Disney, Pixar and 20th Century Games. With Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, players will be able to experience an epic and original story as they explore the world of Pandora in a way that is only possible in games. Brenda Panagrossi, Vice President of Ubisoft’s global brand, added: Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an exciting Pandora expansion that will appeal to fans of Avatar and adventure games alike; from flying through the clouds on a banshee to dominating enemies in combat and exploring the beautiful and dangerous western frontier, the game truly has all the makings of an incredible blockbuster.

The new game takes place on the Western Frontier, an unknown continent where players can explore Pandora firsthand. Featuring new Na’vi clans and rich wildlife, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora also offers players a banshee companion to team up with and fly through the game’s open skies. Users can enjoy this vibrant open world in either single player or two-player co-op.

Na’vi and the threats of the RDA: Discover the world of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

In Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the human military corporation RDA has returned to Pandora to exploit the resources of the land and its inhabitants. Players will take on the role of Na’vi, who was born here but was abducted as a child and raised far from his culture in the RDA’s training programme. With Na’vi roots and human upbringing, the protagonist suddenly finds himself free, but as a stranger in his own homeland. You will have to defend the western border from the return of the RDA, reconnect with your lost Na’vi heritage, and unite the diverse clans for the common good.

Throughout the vast Western Frontier, players will find unique clans that will teach them what it means to be a Na’vi, hone their Na’vi senses, master their strength to navigate the beautiful and dangerous open world, and develop skills to resist the RDA. This will include using traditional Na’vi weapons such as bows for greater accuracy and powerful spear throwers, as well as forming a lifelong bond with a banshee who can be a powerful ally in aerial combat. Additionally, players will have the opportunity to use what they’ve learned from training humans, from weapons like noise grenades to different fighting styles.

Customisation also extends to banshees with exclusive equipment and more.

All players of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on PlayStation will receive free access to the Aranahe Warrior Pack. Users who purchase the Season Pass will receive an additional mission at launch and two expansions that will be available in 2024. Ubisoft+ subscribers will have access to the Ultimate Edition, which includes the Season Pass, a digital art book, a Sarentu Heritage cosmetics set, and the Sarentu Hunter Equipment Pack.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Although some reviewers actively criticise the boring gameplay, poor PC optimisation, and monotonous tasks, they still give the project by Massive Entertainment relatively high marks.

“Despite the fact that the game contains many familiar open-world elements, a minimalist user interface, funny movement mechanics, and a great setting, everything makes exploring Pandora an exciting experience.” – Gamespot, 8/10.

“Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora isn’t without its flaws, but it’s still one of Ubisoft’s best games in years.”-God is a Geek, 8.5/10.

“Beyond the tedious story lies spectacle and freedom” – VideoGamer, 8/10.

Some critics were less lenient, however, and gave Ubisoft’s latest sandbox a much worse review.

“The very definition of mediocrity; while the game won’t upset you, it certainly won’t surprise you.” – Stevivor, 5/10.

“Predictable story, mediocre game mechanics, and dull graphics make for a very disappointing gaming experience.” – TechRaptor, 5/10.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora currently has 74 points out of 100 on Metacritic and 72 out of 100 on OpenCritic.
